Open my Eyes...

Rain, Rain...

"A rainy day is greater than the day the Torah was given."
My pouty-faced, crossed-arm, boot-stomping marches through the rain will never be again since I learned this. Today, this phrase popped into my mind as I was walking (umbrella-less, if I might add) through the pouring rain and a sense of profound awe washed over me- I must have looked like a crazy person, and I'm sure I was the only person in New York out without an umbrella, but I slowed down my pace, smiling obliviously as the rest of the world hustled by. I thought about the fact that right then, at that moment, Hashem was telling us that He loves us. Suddenly, every drop was a miracle in my eyes; Hashem wasn't hidden but right there, pouring blessings upon His beautiful earth.
I wanted to die of shame as I thought of the times I've whined, "I haaaaaaaaate thissssss!" as I reluctantly scurried into the downpour. I had no idea what a gift it was to experience rain.
Isn't nature wonderful?

P.S.: I promise to start off every post from now on with a Jewish quote. Sheesh, I don't know how you all were putting up with me before, but too much kvetching for my taste. No complaints today, baruch Hashem.

I love the rain, but nothing and I mean nothing beats the snow. I can't wait for the snow to come...

Beautiful post!

I know the rain was yesterday, but I felt the same way...I just wish I'd had the same voice in my head to cheer me up!
